Companies are working on very small devices that can interface wirelessly with read-write devices. The devices could be attached to envelopes or paper to transmit pictures or text.
On July 17, 2006, Hewlett Packard announced that the company developed a wireless chip to transfer data, which it calls a "memory spot." According to a press release by the company, the chips could be embedded in a sheet of paper or stuck to any surface, and could eventually be available in a booklet as self-adhesive dots.
